Synopsis: Mikoto: Ayasaki-kun, drink some Martinee.

Hayate: No thx, I'm a minor.

Mikoto: This is AMERICA. S'AAAWRIGHT!

Hayate: NO IT'S NOT!

Narrator: Gotta be 21 to drink, kiddies.

Hayate: Yeah, I totally heard a voice that sounded like that of a god. Totally like...

Mikoto: SLURRRP! AHHHH!

Hayate: You wanna listen or what?

Mikoto: Sowweee! But I dun wanna hear this while I'm sober. These are the words of my precious person after all.

Hayate: I seeee~

Mikoto: Orders beer... s'awright... continue~

Hayate: K... anywayz, me and oujou-sama totally made out in Shimoda see? So stuff happened~

Hayate: Anywayz, I thought I'd never see OjOU-TAMA again...but at that time, I had a daydream and after that, the my problem was immediately resolved.

Hayate: I had a dream about a strange woman in front of ojou-sama's mother's grave.

Hayate: And that person told me something

(Mikoto keeps downing DAT BEER)

Mikoto: Orders wine next

at this point, Hayate and Mikoto have another short exchange about her drinking while he's talking...

Mikoto: Dun be upset man, this is normal for adults.

Hayate: BUT AT LEAST LISTEN TO MY STORY, J00!

Mikoto: So... what'd this person say?

Hayate: You'll really come and help me when I call for you, right? Also, send my best regards to Nagi.

Mikoto: Do you remember that person's face?

Hayate: Yup

Mikoto: (pulls out smapho! I can do japanese, me) Does she look like....

Mikoto: THIS! (shows picture of some guy with dark-rimmed glasses eating ramen)

Hayate: (I'm being trolled, aren't I?) .....

Mikoto: Eh? Wait... who is this?

Hayate: How the **** should I know?

Mikoto: eh... now where were those old photos... (fiddles with smapho a bit)

Mikoto: This is HARD!

Hayate: oh effin... you're just drunk!

Mikoto: HERE! YOU DO IT!

Hayate: Here, so where is it?

Hayate: Please don't show me somethin lewd

Mikoto: This person

Hayate: YAH YAH, it's definitely her!

Hayate: This person told me in a dream that she wants to ask me a favor again.

Hayate: But what does this have to do with Ojou-sama?

Mikoto: This is enough, right?

Mikoto: Those King's Jewels in your hand will open the door to the Royal Garden with an explosion of negative emotions.

Mikoto: God lives in this castle but that castle also houses an evil king.

Mikoto: LOOONG AGO, God met the evil king. The king saw the God's power and wanted it for himself. So he deceived the god and took the God's power for himself. That's why the royal power was sealed inside a coffin.


Mikoto: So that's why the King's Jewels shine with the light of the royal power.

Mikoto: So that's why all these things were stolen from the god by the evil king. (lol summarized it a bit)

Mikoto: And that girl (Yukariko) thought to return the power to the god.

Mikoto: But this girl ran out of time before she could return the power to the God.

Mikoto: She is Nagi's mother, Sanzenin Yukariko.

Mikoto: This is like a fairytale story, right?

Hayate: Yeah, it's strange.

Mikoto: But those stones exist. You hold God's power in your hand.

Mikoto: A greedy person will want those stones. (panel shows Mikado)

Hayate: Why are you entrusting me with such an important thing then?

Mikoto: ......

Mikoto: I thought you might be able to fulfill it. I couldn't fulfill that person's wish.

Hayate: I  get it. You want me to return God's power, to God, right?

Mikoto: Yes, because if the power is removed, the Royal Garden will be destroyed. (not sure on this)

Hayate: Destroyed?

Mikoto: Yes, but there is also a way of resisting. The power is in your hands and that person is there too.

Hayate: Who dat?

Mikoto: Nagi-chan's previous butler. Himegami Aoi.

Review: Plot-dump and a lot of it. Well, this chapter is mostly about Mikoto and Hayate talking. Mikoto finally reveals what Yukariko looks like to Hayate since apparently, he never knew in the canon story prior to this chapter (unlike how it was implied in the season 2 anime that he knew that it was  Nagi's mother in his dream.)

Anyway, so Hayate's been tasked with participating in the Holy Grail War Royal Garden Warinadvertently and now it seems Himegami is in the mix... and he's a good guy, apparently.

Also, one thing worth noting is that Mikoto has actually revealed just about everything she knows about the Royal Garden and the King's Jewels and that she has actually also let Hayate know about how an explosion of negative emotions will trigger the path to open the way.

I think we can safely assume that the "ringleader" she's talking about in this chapter should be Hisui Hatsushiba.

Personally, I enjoyed Mikoto's drunk antics like showing Hayate that picture of some guy slurping ramen rather than the Royal Garden plot dump.... anyway, this is really the start of the final arc (I think) people, brace yourselves. The feels are comin your way.

With that said, I have a theory for this week's speculation corner~

Speculation Corner: Here's something that just hit me. All along we've been presuming that it'd definitely be Nagi who would have the explosion of negative emotions. In a comment, Doughnut Gunso proposed that Nagi might be fine and it might be Hayate who would have the explosion of negative emotions that opens the way to the Royal Garden...

Well, here's another thought: How about if instead of outright rejecting Nagi, she just surreptitiously finds out that Hayate has never had any romantic feelings (at least not that anyone can perceive) for her and the he has in fact been deeply in love with someone else before (Athena) and that Hayate has never seen her (Nagi) as a romantic prospect.

Anyway, knowing that Hayate could NEVER see her that way and that he would not be happy staying as her butler, Nagi makes one final decision and gives Hayate his freedom... by firing him.

So she goes all "Thank you for everything... and goodbye."

Hayate: "Eh? Ojou-sama? What's this all about."

Nagi: "I've always loved you, but you could never see me that way. You're fired, Hayate... y-you're free! Go! Be happy!"

Then she runs away in tears. At that moment, Hayate realizes the true weight of her words... that she had just confessed her love to him.

BOOM!

There's your explosion of negative emotions from the two main characters. Hayate at being confessed to and then subsequently rejected by the one person whom he has explicitly dedicated his life to and Nagi upon learning that the love of her life could never love her back.

Now that is some juicy drama right there... and ya gotta admit, it's definitely something that Hata-sensei could think of given his penchant for shocking plot twists.

Hayate The Combat Butler: Chapter 519 -- Spare The Wealth -- Review and Synopsis

Review: Ok, let's skip the part about Yukiji and Sistah coz... I can't be bothered to figure out what's goin on with them... something about the debt being cleared, I suppose... and the MIB handing them a card.

Hayate and Maria have a little talk. Nagi won a lot but it doesn't matter since the school is funded by the Sanzenin family's donations anyway.

Maria: Honestly, I've lost to that kid for the first time.

by the way, have ya noticed? Nagi's sleeping alone now. She used to be scared to sleep alone that's why she slept with me.

Maria: I think this is a good time...

Flashback to Yukariko spouting something about "hope."

Also, Hayate is now holding a king's jewel in his hand.

Maria: You've fulfilled your role, right?

Tsugumi is conspiring with Mikoto Tachiban (Wataru's mother) and Mikoto says something about returning the stones and about Hayate (Nagi's most important person) winning the level 5 competition.

Anywayz, Hayate has another Yukariko flashback and then Mikoto approaches him and introduces herself... and then proceeds to kick him from out of nowhere... coz apparently, he reminds him of a man she married once.

She says something about "blood will tell."

Then proceeds to give Hayate two King's Jewels... as apology... or a really terrible excuse to pawn him dem king's jewels.

Apparently, Tsugumi stole them from Mikado... according to Mikoto.

She then asks Hayate if he heard the person with the voice of a goddess (Yukariko) and asks him to tell her what she said.

Review: I was very lazy when I made this post... especially in reading the Japanese, therefore, I didn't even bother to check the kanji and words for correctness... anyway, I shouldn't be THAT far off.

Shoo~ cute~!!!

Okie, now we're back to the plot and it's moving on at quite a clip. Maria just basically acknowledged Nagi's character development so far and brought it to light so even Hayate has to acknowledge it. More importantly, she seems to be suggesting that Hayate's role (or maybe she was referring to herself. Lazy Japanese, me... very lazy) is now fulfilled.

Anyway, we then see Hayate holding a King's Jewel from out of nowhere. I presume Maria gave it to him.

Also, one thing bothers me about what Mikoto said (again, maybe I'm just reading it wrong), but she seems to imply that Hayate is related to her husband somehow... but we all know that Hayate's parents are good-for-nothings who'd have nothing to do with the super wealthy, right? Right? ... err... maybe not if we take Ruka's case as precedence. Also, she could have just been referring to Nagi and Yukariko both choosing a butler.... yeah, that makes more sense. Ah... I fail at this Japanese thing. Good thing I'm self-taught. :P

We also learn that Tsugumi was working for Mikoto this entire time and she's actually pretty competent at what she does... either that or old man Mikado's security is totally incompetent... or he let her steal the stones on purpose since it's ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN.

Anyway, much juiciness in the plot this week, although we'll still have to give it a few more chapters to develop, I'd bet. I'm banking on Athena playing a huge part in what could be the start of the final arc of this manga.

Little update... senpai noticed me (Hata Kenjiroh sensei) AGAIN! Iyaaaay! Anyway, thanks a lot, Hata-sensei!

Not exactly an Earth-shaking achievement, but... it makes me happy nonetheless.

Hayate The Combat Butler Chapter 518: Ill-Known Secret Method -- Synopsis and Review

Screw the cover art for this chapter, check out Volume 47's cover art. Ad Astra Per Aspera reference from a Hayate no Gotoku! Inspired pose in Ad Astra Per Aspera... Hata's so META, man! Also, I would not mind being Hayate in that position. Nagi can order me around all she likes.

Synopsis: It's a Fumi and Sharna chapter. Fumi greets us all a happy new year and she wants to make money.

She's in the poorhouse right now because she has to take care of Armageddon (A-tan's doggy friend) and the latest leecher, Shii-chan (Why is she called Ell-chan in the translations?), the maid-robo who eats a lot.

Furthermore, her mother has taken to drinking while her father is spending all the company's money on some hostess. Sharna tells her to calm down a bit.

Shii-chan catches up with them and tells them that she'll cooperate in this matter and also uses this moment to reintroduce herself.

Ell-chan is back... err.. Shii-chan.

Fumi calls her a piece of junk and asks what she wants. Of course, she wants to help because her food will be reduced if the Hibino family goes into extreme poverty while imagining Fumi's dad getting arrested for something.

Shii-chan suggests that Fumi should get a part-time job.

Fumi is flabbergasted that her maid robo is telling her to go get a job. She tells Shii-chan to go work instead since she looks exactly like a human anyway.

Shii-chan says but there's no rice in work.

Sharna asks what kind of work Fumi can do. She tried being a maid before.

Shii-chan says there is something that Fumi can do and Fumi's all worked up as to why this piece of junk is so serious all of a sudden.

She then rants about being reduced to a hand to mouth existence.

Shii-chan gets an idea because of the rhyming in her words. She says that Fumi is talented at rapping.

Fumi, being the simpleton that she is, gets all flattered by this compliment. She asks Shii-chan if rapping is profitable. Shii-chan diverts the conversation.

Fumi is determined to go through with this rapping thing though. It's easy since you don't need an instrument and you can make money with just lip service. (Fumi-chan is totally going to make a cameo in Sore Ga Seiyuu!)

She asks Shii-chan to tell her more about rap. By the way, Shii-chan listens to rap music everyday in Tsutaya.

Anywayz, Fumi says she needs a rival and things get weird as Hatsuho (Isumi's mother) uses this moment to reintroduce herself into the manga and have a rap battle with Fumi with Shii-chan laying down the beatbox.

Hatsuho goes first and when it's Fumi's turn. Sharna tells her to wait a second, but Fumi stops her and tells her to be a good audience because Fumi will reach out to the audience's heart. Sharna thinks she heard something profound...

Fumi then raps about Sharna being an A-cup and about Sharna's dream body -- which makes Sharna give her a good uppercut.

Someone suggests a serious part-time job about being a Sagashima show? and Fumi agrees.

Review: Awright... let's get this review out of the way because I really don't have much to say. Some of the jokes were lost in translation for me, but I did find it amusing how Hata makes light of stuff with serious implications such as Fumi's seemingly dire situation with her family and money troubles.

That's always been the case with the manga, hasn't it? The broken family theme. Hata's made us laugh and cry at Hayate's family situation. Nagi lost her parents early and her grandfather is apparently not too fond of her -- furthermore, she was raised by a girl only a few years older than her. There's also Hina and Yukiji's past -- which, though not fully explored, would suggest that they only had each other for awhile before they were adopted. There's also Ruka's situation, which was very similar to Hayate's, except that she got her happy ending. 

Anyway, it was also nice to see Ell-chan again. I'm calling her Shii-chan, because that's what it says in the text. Fumi's really blunt with her words calling her a piece of junk -- which was actually kinda funny.
